Environmental stewardship
RESCO recognizes the need to protect our environment and has implemented a “Green Initiatives” program to help keep our environmental impact to a minimum. Our goal is to use practices in a resource dependent industry that will lessen our impact on the environment while maintaining our high standard of quality printed products. At RESCO we consider environmental responsibility to be a lifestyle as well as good business. From our pressroom to the lunchroom, we do everything possible to lessen our impact and promote a healthy environment. Details of how RESCO goes about this will be added and featured below.
Down to Earth
More and more people are communicating with electronic media, but are electronic devices more environmentally friendly than paper? To address this important question, International Paper launched a brochure in its Down to Earth environmental series, “Pixels vs. Paper: Are pixels greener than paper?” Every decision to communicate has some impact on the environment and the brochure reveals some important facts about communicating on paper vs. electronically. Also, the brochure includes some facts that may surprise you. For example, did you know...read more

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (CoC) Certification gained.
RESCO received FSC certification in February of 2009. FSC is recognized as the most rigorous and credible forest certification system internationally. RESCO’s processes and standards were thoroughly audited by Smartwood, a responsible forestry program of the Rainforest Alliance.
This certification enables RESCO to offer chain of custody for FSC certified paper - ensuring that the paper used comes from verifiably well-managed forests and reputable pulp producers and paper mills.
What does this mean for our customers?
By using RESCO, an FSC certified printer, and FSC certified paper, it means that your printed jobs can carry the coveted Forest Stewardship Council logo, showing that your organization is actively promoting the use of responsible materials and reinforcing with your audiences a commitment to working with vendors that only use best environmental practices. Non-certified printers are not able to offer you this.
RESCO is proud to add the FSC certification. The two main reasons for us to become FSC certified were because we are always trying to be good stewards within our community and within our industry. Secondly, because we have clients who consistently try to improve their environmental initiatives by requesting recycled papers, reduced packaging, vegetable-based inks, etc. As we continue to improve our company’s “green initiatives” for the sake of the environment, our clients will have options to do the same. It’s definitely a win/win scenario.

RESCO Gains Green Certification
RESCO completed a certification in the Great Printer Environmental Initiative. This is a certification program for printers administered through the Printing Industry of Minnesota, Inc.
The Great Printer Environmental Initiative is the country’s longest-running certification program exclusively for printers. Members go through an audit process which assures compliance with all applicable environmental, health and safety requirements. In addition to passing the audit, members must commit to the program standards and complete ongoing projects in subsequent years which go beyond compliance by minimizing waste, reusing or recycling waste and increasing energy efficiency. There are currently 48 Great Printers in the program, which started in 1997. This is a voluntary program aimed at increasing environmental, health and safety compliance and pollution prevention within the printing industry.
RESCO has implemented several recycling and energy conservation projects and continues to explore additional ways to increase recycling and conserve energy in their operation. “We are happy to be a member of the Great Printer program. This certification demonstrates RESCO’s commitment to go beyond what is required by regulatory agencies in environmental, health and safety,” says President John Knutson. RESCO is a full-service printer serving clients nationwide, and has been in operation since 1989.
Blue
Blue is a product by a RESCO business partner, which is basically organic “rock” superheated into an ash and then packed into a biodegradable plastic. This product will break down over months in a landfill rather than hundreds of years, like the most commonly used Styrofoam thermal packaging. Blue also has increased thermal qualities which enables us to ship via two-day air instead of overnight. For more info, click here.
